MN Veterans' Preference

Recommendations on Veterans’ Preference for Minnesota

The 2009 amendments to the Veterans’ Preference Act, in MN statute 197.4XX, require that districts make use of a 100-point evaluation system which grants points for an applicant’s claim.   Districts using AppliTrack can accommodate and track applicant claims, record applicant evaluations, and meet notification requirements, through the following recommendations:
  1. Maintain a “Veterans’ Preference Claim” page in the online application.
  2. Collect the DD-214 document in electronic form.
  3. Highlight applicants’ claim in the selection process.
  4. Maintain one or more 100-point evaluation forms that include the applicant’s claim.
  5. Use an email template to notify applicants with claim that they have not been selected.
Below is the presentation describing the recommended changes in AppliTrack that will let you more easily meet the VPA requirements. I request that you and/or your appropriate staff review the contents of this presentation.
