Recommendations on Veterans’ Preference for Minnesota
The 2009 amendments to the Veterans’ Preference Act, in MN statute 197.4XX, require that districts make use of a 100-point evaluation system which grants points for an applicant’s claim. Districts using AppliTrack can accommodate and track applicant claims, record applicant evaluations, and meet notification requirements, through the following recommendations:

Maintain a “Veterans’ Preference Claim” page in the online application.

Collect the DD-214 document in electronic form.

Highlight applicants’ claim in the selection process.

Maintain one or more 100-point evaluation forms that include the applicant’s claim.

Use an email template to notify applicants with claim that they have not been selected.
